Intensive English Program: F-1 Visa Students

Application Process for Intensive English Program: F-1 Visa Students

The following is the application process for prospective students who would like to obtain an F-1 Visa and study in Michigan Language Center’s Intensive English Program. For prospective students who do NOT need an F-1 Visa, please see instructions for applying to MLC’s full-time or part-time classes here.

Before the Application Process:

Please look carefully at MLC’s Session Dates when determining which session to apply for. MLC strongly recommends that students apply at least two months before a session begins in order to allow time to receive their Form I-20, make an appointment at the U.S. Consulate in their home country, and prepare travel plans to the U.S.

Please note that if MLC has to re-issue an I-20 for a later date, there is a non-refundable $50.00 re-issue fee for the student named on the I-20, and a non-refundable $25.00 re-issue fee for each dependent I-20.

    Step 1: Apply

Students will need to submit the online application form. On the application form, students will be asked to:

    • Select which Session they would like to study
    • Provide basic personal information
    • Upload a copy of their passport
    • Upload a copy of a bank statement or letter of financial guarantee, which states that the student has sufficient funds to study at MLC and live in the U.S. If the student is not the bank account holder, the bank account holder should complete the Affidavit of Financial Support and email it to info@englishclasses.com.
    • Initial I-20 applicants must pay the $125.00 nonrefundable application fee by credit card.
    • Change of Status I-20 applicants must pay the $225.00 nonrefundable application fee by credit card.
    • Upload copies of passports for dependents, if the student will bring dependents (spouse, children) to the U.S. Please note there is a non-refundable $50.00 dependent fee for each dependent.

Please make sure you have all these documents ready to upload before you begin the online application form. Acceptable file formats for the document uploads are: .jpg, .png, .pdf, .doc, .docx.

    Step 2: Review

Once the online application form and supporting documents are submitted, MLC will review them.

Once MLC has reviewed all proper documentation and received payment on Quickbooks, we will send the student an email stating that we have begun processing the Form I-20.

If MLC has not received all proper documentation, we will send an email to the student requesting the missing information.

Processing the Form I-20 for the student and any dependents can take up to 3-5 business days. Once processing has finished, MLC will send the student the admission letter and Form I-20 via email.

Step 4: What To Do Next

After MLC emails the student the acceptance letter and the Form I-20, the student should make an appointment with the U.S. Consulate in their home country as quickly as possible. In the acceptance letter, students will find more information about when they need to report to the MLC and register for classes.

If students have any questions during the application process, they can email MLC at info@englishclasses.com.
