Description

Students learn and practice strategies to perform successfully on all sections of the IELTS academic exam. This includes comprehending high-level academic material in spoken and written form on a variety of subjects. Online materials include up-to-date practice tests and materials recommended by The British Council. Laptop or tablet required.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Build the skills you need to perform successfully on the IELTS test
  • Work on a combination of skill-building exercises and practice tests
  • Speak about, read, write, and comprehend academic material, including semi-authentic and authentic conversations and lectures
  • Read and listen to expository passages on the IELTS test and answer questions about main ideas and details, do sentence and summary completions, and more
  • Label diagrams and complete charts based on material you have read or listened to
  • Summarize information depicted visually in charts, graphs, and diagrams
  • Support your opinion with reasons and examples in both writing and in speaking
  • Demonstrate outlining and note-taking skills appropriate for university-level material
  • Speak, read, and write a sophisticated academic vocabulary

Instructor: Kerri Johnson

Kerri has spent more than 3,000 hours in the classroom helping hundreds of students reach their English exam goals since 1999. She spent 3 years working with professionals at Toyota to help them prepare for the TOEIC exam. She spent 5 years assisting students in Italy prepare for Trinity exams and Cambridge exams including the KET, PET, FCE and CAE exams. In the USA, she has spent more than 7 years devoted to aiding university-bound students prepare for the TOEFL and IELTS exams. Kerri’s decades of experience with various exams give her the ability to help students not only with the techniques needed to face the questions on the exam, but also the stress and time management factors that inevitably challenge many students. Her personal goal is for every student to walk into exam day and experience no surprises and do their personal best with confidence.
