Description

This class is designed to improve overall production and fluency of American English in combination with listening, summarizing and presenting skills. We will create short presentations which summarize main ideas and supporting details for select listenings following a basic presentation structure. The presentations will reflect the American preference for explicit communication, and use these presentations as tool to practice: Individual phonemes, internal word stress, rhythm, thought groups (including focus words), and final intonation.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about and practice American English pronunciation
  • Create a presentation using visual aids in the cultural context of using explicit communication
  • Effectively listen to native speakers of American English by understanding native use of content, function, and focus words
  • Listen and identify main ideas and supporting details in listening texts, varying between 9 -20 minutes
