This month we talked with Gabriel Guevara for MLC Student Spotlight. Gabriel is from Caracas, Venezuela. He studies English at MLC and plays baseball for Concordia University. Here is an excerpt from our conversation:
“Who has been the biggest influence in your life?”
Gabriel: “My mom, of course.”
“And what lessons did she teach you?”
Gabriel: “To work hard, to believe in myself. She’s always saying, ‘if you want it, you’ve got to work hard for it.’ I think that is the first thing I learned from her. Because she’s always like, ‘if somebody else can do it, I can do it, as well.’ You see? So, that’s what I learned from her. She’s always working hard, she’s studying, and she’s pushing me. ‘Don’t see the bad things. Look for something good in the bad things. And if you make a mistake, learn from those mistakes.'”
